Bhusuku: Shantideva’s Three Perfections : Dale Borglum & Robert A.F. Thurman at Menla | 11/1/2017

Bhusuku: Shantideva’s Three Perfections Buddhist Insights and Practices for Life, Death & the In-Between Retreat with Dale Borglum & Robert A.F. Thurman

In this video Professor Robert AF Thurman tells the story of Shantideva’s name Bhusuku & the origins of his teaching “The Way of the Bodhisattva (Bodhicharyavatara)” during his monastic days at Nālandā in India.

From Wikipedia: “To the other students, he seemed to be the laziest person there, so they called him bhusuku. Bhu comes from bhukta, which means eating. And su comes from susta, which means sleeping. And ku comes from kuchiwa, which means just walking. So bhusuku is one who just eats, sleeps, and goes out to the toilet. ”

Recorded at Menla‘s Nalanda Conference Center in Phoenicia, New York during the Oct 31st 2015 Halloween Evening Discussion of the 2015 “Death & Deathlessness: Buddhist Insights and Practices for Life, Death & the In-Between Retreat” with Dale Borglum & Robert Thurman.
