Blown Away by Nirvana : The Buddha’s Eight Fold Path Explained with Robert A.F. Thurman & Mark Epstein M.D. from the Annual Tibet House US Buddhism and Psychotherapy Program, Recorded at Menla in Phoenicia, New York August 2016
In this short video Professor Robert Thurman gives an introduction to the Buddha’s Eight Fold Path + the idea of Nirvana.
Includes an in depth discussion of translating Buddhist terminology from Pali + Sanskrit accurately to reveal the wisdom contained within.
“The Buddha’s nirvana is not a drive towards death or disintegration, as Freud naively assumed; it is an ability to accept death and disintegration without falling apart; without twisting, distorting, or tormenting the mind in response.
The freedom that the Buddha taught might more accurately be described as the ability to maintain one’s composure in the face of an impermanent, always changing, and apparently imperfect, world.
