In this video Professor Robert AF Thurman discusses Buddhist Vipassana Meditation, Manjushri, his early days as a Tibetan language translator and studying “Tsongkhapa’s Iron Bow” with Tulku Tara & His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

“If you meditate a lot, before you have some learning, especially about emptiness and selflessness, then you’re likely to get into a state, because the mind is so powerful, where you will feel comfortable with your self-centeredness intact and it’ll be a kind of escapist state—a quietist type of escapist state.
When they do any kind of meditation where they sort of suspend their thinking process they feel more comfortable. So that’s a good sell and that way can develop a big Dharma center, or a cult, or a group.
