The Tibet Fund Seeks Program Coordinator

The Tibet Fund is seeking a Program Coordinator to oversee successful  administration of the Tibetan Scholarship Program (TSP). Funded by the U.S.  State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this program  brings Tibetan scholars and mid-career professionals from India and Nepal  to pursue master’s degrees at universities in the U.S. Since 1988, more than  500 students have attended a wide range of public and private universities  including Harvard, Columbia, UC Berkeley, NYU, and Georgia Tech. 

Founded in 1981 under the patronage of H.H. the Dalai Lama, The Tibet  Fund’s mission is to preserve the distinct cultural identity of the Tibetan  people. Based in New York with a field office in Dharamsala, India, The Tibet  Fund supports programs to strengthen Tibetan communities and safeguard  Tibet’s cultural heritage (www.tibetfund.org). This position reports to the  President and works with a team of staff and partner organizations in India  and Nepal. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist successful applicants with university placements, tuition  remissions, visa applications, travel and living arrangements, and  other logistics. Serve as primary contact for students during their stay in the U.S. and support them with any academic or other issues that  may occur. 
  • Serve as primary contact for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of  Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Prepare and submit bi-annual  narrative reports and communicate with ECA’s Program Officer on a  regular basis about program developments and progress.  
  • Maintain excellent communications and cooperative relationships  with the Central Tibetan Administration’s Department of Education  and the TSP Student Selection Committee in Nepal. Collaborate with  all program partners on facilitating the application and selection  process for new scholarship opportunities. 
  • Make site visits to host universities to meet with scholarship students

and university officials and maintain excellent communication with  university admissions and academic directors.  

  • Facilitate student orientation and pre-departure workshops in New  York and Washington, lead monthly check-in meetings online, and  facilitate extra-curricular educational and cultural exchange activities.  
  • Ensure the smooth flow of program funds for student tuition,  accommodation, health insurance, travel, and living expenses.  Working with the TTF Finance Director, create and maintain monthly  pipeline budgets and assist in preparing quarterly financial reports.  
  • Prepare and submit bi-annual narrative reports to ECA. 
  • Assist the President with other program development, management,  coordination, monitoring, and reporting tasks as needed. 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ATTRIBUTES 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with 5+ years of professional experience. • Well-organized and detail-oriented. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks,  meet deadlines, and execute across multiple priorities simultaneously.  • Results-oriented self-starter with ability to take initiative and learn new  skills quickly. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.  
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team player and independently when  needed. 
  • Strong Tibetan verbal skills and English writing skills. 
  • Proficient in Excel with experience working with budgets. • Prior project management or coordination experience preferred. • Prior work experience in nonprofit and/or education sector a plus. • Prior experience working with the Tibetan exile community and  knowledge of the Central Tibetan Administration a plus. 
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, humility, feedback skills, and the  ability to sustain trusted relationships with a wide array of people. • The highest ethical standards and discretion.

BUSINESS TERMS 

  • Salary: $55,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience. ● Benefits: The Tibet Fund offers a competitive health benefits package  including medical, dental, and vision, and matches 403(b) contributions  up to 5% for employees participating in its retirement plan.  ● This position is in-person at The Tibet Fund’s New York office, and  requires occasional travel within the U.S.
