Sand Mandala Creation at Tibet House US in New York City (Monday, November 3 through Sunday, November 9th)

We are delighted to announce that the Tashi Kyil monks, continuing their tour will be next visiting Tibet House US in New York and constructing a sand mandala, from Monday, November 3 through Sunday, November 9th at 22 West 15th Street, New York.

This ancient Tibetan Buddhist tradition involves the creation of an intricate mandalic design made of colored sand. It is used as a tool for meditation and visualization. The mandala is ritually dismantled, symbolizing the impermanence of all things in life. The creation of a sand mandala begins with a ceremony consecrating the site and blessing the sand. A metal funnel called a chakpur is used to to pour the sand into place on the design grain by grain. It can take several days or even weeks to complete a sand mandala. The mandala is ritually dismantled, symbolizing the impermanence of all things in life.

The event is open to the public and livestreamed on
YouTubeFacebook and Thus.org.

Donations go towards supporting the monastery and furthering the education for the young monks who reside at the Monastery.

Continuing Long-Life Prayers for His Holiness

We encourage our community to continue the recitation of long-life mantras for His Holiness’s long life:

1) Recitation of Buddha Amitayus (Tsepagme) Long-Life Mantra:

OM A MA-RA-NI DZI-WEN-TI-YE SWA-HA

2) Recitation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Name Mantra:

OM AH GURU BENDZA DHARA BHATARAK MANDŽUŠRI VAGINDRA SUMATI DZŇANA ŠÁSANA DHARA SAMUDRA ŠHRÍ BHADRA SARVA SIDDHI HUM HUM

3) Continuing Life-Saving Practices:
Adopting a vegetarian diet, making donations to animal rescue organizations, avoiding harming all creatures, and supporting environmental conservation efforts. By prolonging the lives of animals, we naturally prolong our own lives. We can then dedicate this practice to others, including teachers, and to all living beings.

The Profound Impact of Our Practice:

When we participate in practices for His Holiness’s long life, we are not only generating the causes for his continued presence among us but also expressing our gratitude for his tireless efforts in spreading the Dharma and promoting peace worldwide.

By engaging in these practices, we add to a global wave of positive energy aimed at His Holiness’s health and longevity. This is extremely important for sentient beings to experience the light of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that remains for their benefit. Every recitation and act of compassion helps create the causes and conditions for His Holiness to keep guiding us and all beings on the path to enlightenment. Together, we can build an ocean of merit for the world.
